1. What are Determiners?
Determiners એ એવા શબ્દો છે, જે Noun પહેલાં આવે છે અને Noun નો અર્થ સ્પષ્ટ કરે છે.
Examples:
- My book
- This pen
- Some water
- The sun
Main Types:
- Articles: a, an, the
- Possessives: my, your, his
- Demonstratives: this, that
- Quantifiers: some, many, few
2. Articles (a, an, the)
English grammar માં માત્ર 3 Articles છે.
Indefinite: a, an
Definite: the
🟢 A / An – Indefinite Articles
A/An નો ઉપયોગ ત્યારે થાય છે જ્યારે વસ્તુ NON-SPECIFIC હોય.
🔹 “A” નો ઉપયોગ
Consonant Sound (વ્યંજન ઉચ્ચાર) પહેલાં
- a dog
- a teacher
- a university (Sound "yu" છે)
🔹 “An” નો ઉપયોગ
Vowel Sound (સ્વર ઉચ્ચાર) પહેલાં
- an apple
- an umbrella
- an hour (h silent, vowel sound)
⭐ Exam Trick:
Article letter પર નહીં, SOUND પર depend કરે છે.
👉 “an honest man” (h silent → vowel sound)
👉 “a European country” (sound 'yu')
🟣 Use of “The” – Definite Article
“The” નો ઉપયોગ ખાસ/ચોક્કસ noun માટે થાય છે.
Where “The” is Used
- બહૂવચન હોય ને Specific હોય: The students in this class.
- Unique things: the sun, the moon
- Superlatives: the best, the tallest
- Rivers, mountains: the Ganga, the Himalayas
Where NOT to use Article
General plural nouns:
✔ Dogs are faithful.
❌ The dogs are faithful.
Languages & Meals:
✔ I am learning English.
✔ I had breakfast.
